/ 5 Reasons I Was Delighted By The Blue Lagoon
Before going to Iceland, I heard lots of reasons why I should and shouldn’t visit the Blue Lagoon. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time, so I didn’t listen to the naysayers. I knew it was a place I had to visit. I’m so glad I did.
5 Reasons Why The Blue Lagoon Delighted Me
1. The Scenery Was As Otherwordly As It Looked In The Pictures
Many times I’ve arrived at destinations that were on my bucket list, only to find them disappointing or not at all like I was expecting. I went to the Blue Lagoon in the afternoon, and I didn’t find it very crowded at all. I’ve heard that it can be very crowded in the mornings. Since it’s on the way from the airport to Reykjavik, many people stop on the way from the airport. But, the afternoon hardly had anyone soaking in the lagoon. You must have a reservation to enter the Blue Lagoon, which I think is great, as it controls the crowds.
The sunlight filtered through the steam and made me feel like I was in a dream. Conversations were hushed, and everything was very quiet. People justa few feet in front of you vanished into the mist, and the entire atmosphere was incredibly magical.
2. Soaking In The Electric Milky-Blue Waters Is As Relaxing As It Looks
With its mineral rich water full of silica and sulfur, you can feel your muscles relax as you soak. The water isn’t too hot (37-39 C), and it felt more like being in a bathtub rather than hot springs. I spent hours at the Blue Lagoon, and I felt like I was taking the best bath of my life.
If that isn’t relaxing enough for you, there are also sauna and steam rooms, a waterfall you can stand under, and a relaxation room that has a beautiful view overlooking the lagoon.
3. The Face Masks Will Leave Your Skin Glowing When You Leave
There is a facial swim up bar with a silica face mask that everyone can slather on their body. There are also girls with the mask wandering around in the water that bring the face mask to you. This was one of my favorite parts, and it made me feel like I was having the full spa experience.
I was provided with the Premium package by the Blue Lagoon, and besides a bathrobe, towel, and slippers, it also gave me an algae mask that I highly recommend getting. While the silica mask was very cleansing, the algae mask was incredibly nourishing, and it left my face silky soft.
4. The Swim Up Bar
The Premium package included one free drink at the swim up bar, and I have to say it felt very luxurious to be sipping on Prosecco, as I floated through the soft waters. The bar also provided water, wine, beer, and Skyr smoothies which looked delicious.
The only thing I do have to say, is that I wish the Blue Lagoon provided drinking fountains for people to fill their own water bottles. I didn’t find it environmentally friendly to require people to purchase plastic bottles. Not only that, the water was expensive, and I could see where people, especially those drinking alcohol, could dehydrate very easily. The tickets to the Blue Lagoon are not cheap, so I would think water would be something they could easily provide. In fact, this was the first spa I’ve been to that doesn’t provide water.
5. You Can Take Gorgeous Photos
I was entranced by the way the sunlight danced with the clouds and the steam from The Blue Lagoon. I had almost as much fun taking photos as I did soaking in the pools. The Blue Lagoon even sells something to protect your iPhone so you can take photos, if you don’t already have a waterproof case. If you bring your own case, make sure to bring one that floats. If you drop your phone, you won’t find it again in the milky waters.
I highly recommend a visit to the Blue Lagoon when you go to Iceland. I think you will be magically delighted.
Many thanks to the Iceland Tourism Board and the Blue Lagoon for hosting my visit to the Blue Lagoon. All opinions, as always, are my own.
