Beach Porn Alert: 7 Reasons Why You Need To Put Lagos, Portugal On Your Bucket List Now
If you are wondering where to travel next, you need to take a look at Lagos, Portugal. Here are 7 reasons why:
Why You Need To Put Lagos On Your Bucket List
1. Perfect Beaches
Portugal has some of the best beaches in Europe. The beaches are so stunningly gorgeous that you will feel like you are in a dream when you see them. Beach caves connect some of the beaches, while towering cliffs surround you in a hug from the Universe. The sand is the perfect softness and the aquamarine waters will leave you feeling soothed in a way that not even spa treatments could do. In fact, I consider the beaches of Lagos to be some of the best beaches in the world.
2. Jaw-Dropping Hiking Paths
Lagos has some of the most jaw-dropping views that you’ve ever seen. Jagged cliffs tower over the crashing waves and there’s no better way to see them than to hike them. I recommend hiking with the West Coast Adventure Company if you want to see the hidden spots of Lagos and beyond.
3. Remarkable Sunsets
I saw some of the most extraordinary sunsets of my life in this western corner of Portugal. Somehow the light here was more ethereal, and I saw sunset colors I had never seen before.
4. Scrumptious Food
Lagos also had a spectacular choice of food. I soon got tired of the mainly cod-based Portuguese diet, and enjoyed all the international food that was available. I ate delicious Mexican, Indian, and incredible seafood. Whatever you do, don’t leave Lagos without trying the Porto gelato from Crema di Gelato. It was some of the best gelato I’ve ever had in my life! For tips on what to eat in the Algarve, read this article.
5. Sangria
The Portuguese were very gifted at making what was some of the best sangria I’ve ever had. Fruity and refreshing without being too sweet, it was the perfect remedy for a hot day.
6. The Waves
Lagos is a haven for surfers. With perfect waves and plenty of beaches to choose from, this is a spot you don’t want to miss.
7. The People
The people were warm and friendly, and it was also easy to meet other travelers. I stayed at the Bura Surfhouse, and it was full of warm and friendly people who made my visit to Lagos that much more fun. I’ll never forget my time in Lagos, and I can see why many people who visit wind up never leaving.

The vibe of Lagos is second to none! Amazing people, beaches and such a relaxed vibrant feel!
It’s so true. It was like no place I’ve ever been before!
I love a hike up cliffs. I’d love to go to Lagos. Food looks great too!

I went on one week holiday, and end up staying for 3 years. Lagos is just amazing, its magic will make you never want to leave.
Stunning, it’s been too long since I’ve been down there, need to go back again.
I can’t believe you forgot to talk about the night life and all the amazing pubs there? Like The Tavern, Whytes, Shakers, etc…?!
Sorry, I’m just not a partier, so I went to none of those places!
Those beaches look like heaven! And I’m really jealous of that sangria right now.
Lagos is really close to Seville, but I’ve only been once…AND IT RAINED THE WHOLE TIME! We definitely partook in a lot of eating and drinking, and managed to get to Sagres before rain struck. Really beautiful place!
Oh, I hate that you didn’t get to see it in all of its glory! Hope you get to go back!
I’m not a huge beach fan myself, I like more to simply have a walk by the sea and enjoy its breeze more than lying still to sunbathe and some of these beaches are truly amazing and paradise corners where I’d happily spend few hours 🙂
Oh gosh, the color of that water is absolutely amazing. How beautiful!
I’ve always been obsessed with going to Lagos, Portugal, after living in West Africa for several months. I loved the idea of going from one Lagos to the other! Unfortunately I haven’t been to either city yet, but this gives me new motivation!
Lagos looks like it ticks all our boxes. We’re surprised about sangria, though. That’s a drink we associate very much with Spain rather than its neighbour.
We are blessed to have lived here in Lagos for four years now, having moved with our 2 children in 2010.
It truly is a beautiful place.
Thank you for sharing it.
I felt lucky to get to see it!
Thanks for sharing this gem. We’re always up for finding the hidden spots of a destination so a hiking tour sounds like a great idea.
You would love the hiking in Lagos!! Not a soul on the trails…
I love beaches, and it looks like I will definitely enjoy Lagos. The beaches there look amazing!
Some of the best I’ve ever been to!
Beautiful pictures – you have inspired me to visit during my next trip to Europe!
Lagos looks beautiful!

thank you so much for this post. I was born in Lagos, lived all my life here, and i will never leave. Went to some places for a couple of months, but my soul is in Lagos, i always came back. The beauty of the people, the beach, the lil villages around, the country side, the city, is all to much beauty and poetry for us. Thank you for apreciating our town, and i hope you’ll come back.
Thank you for sharing your words to the world x

It’s an absolutely incredible place, and I will definitely be back. You are lucky to live there!
Wow, this is an astonishing place to go.
Judging after these images I already changed my sea plans for this year.
You won’t regret it!
Looking up Euro surf spots for our RTW and Lagos keeps coming up over and over. Those rock formations looks jawdropping and I get the impression that Lagos is a bit of a party place too and we may be in the mood for that by the time we arrive. Surf on!
Lagos looks spectacular! The steep cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is a once-in-a-lifetime picture perfect moment. If the people and food are just as nice as the place, who wouldn’t want to spend holidays there! I also heard Lagos has great nightlife…another positive addition to the beach town!
After this I am so excited to be going to Portugal this year. I get to housesit on the Algarve for 2 months what a brilliant adventure and I shall be tagging this for later use.
What a great place to housesit. You are going to love it!!
This looks so gorgeous! My wife and I are considering retiring there. Is there any type of classical music culture? How about locally grown organic produce and meats in natural food stores? Thank you!
I was just visiting, so I recommend you ask a local these kinds of questions!
