/ Koh Rong Samloem-The Most Relaxing Place On Earth
There will come a time when all the bad news of this world, all the sadness, and all the pain will become too much.
The routine of everyday life will either overwhelm you or bore you or both.
The unanswered emails, unreturned phone calls, dirty laundry, and things on the to-do list will pile up, so that it becomes unfathomable that you will ever get through them all.
You may have forgotten who you are in the midst of it. You start to think that this is your life. The “doer” becomes your identity.
The smallest things set you off, stress you out. You’ve forgotten how to be grateful. You don’t remember the last time you laughed so hard that you cried. In fact, you can’t even remember the last time you smiled.
You need a reset on life. You need to remember. You need that far-reaching sigh that comes from the deepness within you that reminds you to let go.
Maybe, you need to get away. You need to get away to the most relaxing place on earth.
Koh Rong Samloem. A place so gentle that the ocean doesn’t even have waves. As you glide across her silky warm waters, her aquamarine kisses hold you tight.
You will finally discover the place that exists between Point A and Point B.
Koh Rong Samloem. There is no internet to distract you. No electricity’s humming to get in the way of your thoughts. Instead, the secrets of the world will be brought to you on dragonfly’s wings.
The monkeys will beckon you from the jungle reminding you to laugh. Children will splash in her ocean showing you how to play. Adults will join in their games. She reminds you of how to be a child again.
Koh Rong Samloem. You will look at every color in a new and different way. You will follow the example of her calmness and come to know what true stillness is. You will eat freshly caught fish when you’re hungry, sip on coconuts when you’re thirsty, and climb into hammocks when you are tired.
Koh Rong Samloem. So little happens that finally even your mind stops having thoughts. You just are. Like the whole world just is. You will come to see how a day filled with nothing can be so full of possibility.
Koh Rong Samloem. You will no longer care what time of day it is, only that the sun is casting beautiful light onto the water, and you would be missing an entire world to look away.
How To Get There: Koh Rong Samloem is an island off the southern coast of Cambodia. Boats leave from Sinaoukvile to Koh Rong Samloem 4 times daily.
Where To Stay: I stayed at Saracen Bay Resort. This resort appeared to me to have the best bungalows on the island. Airy and full of light with a stunning view. I loved watching the sunrise each morning from my bed.
The bungalow comes with your own sun loungers for lying in the sun and comfortable furniture on the patio for just watching the world go by. There is electricity from 5:30 pm until 6:30am. There is no wi-fi on the entire island.
Where To Eat: Most hotels also have a restaurant. I do recommend taking an antibiotic such as Cipro with you to the island, as hygiene standards are poor, and I did get sick while on the island. Saracen Bay Resort’s food was good, but they had a very limited menu. My favorite restaurant was the Orchid Resort’s. They were the only restaurant on the Saracen Bay side that served real coffee and not Folger’s instant. They also served a delicious fruit and yogurt bowl for breakfast. However, they provided neither toilet paper or soap in their restrooms which caused me to question their hygiene.
I also ate at The Beach Resort a few times, but they weren’t serving their wood-fired pizza or their BBQ due to down season. I also found the service there to be quite lacking which is unusual for Cambodia. Enjoy the peace that is Koh Rong Samloem!
Wow!! All your photos are absolutely gorgeous!! I can see how it would be amazingly relaxing surrounded by such views!
Thanks, Mary. This was such a special spot!
It’s perfectly understandable how a place with such lovely landscapes and views is perfect for relaxation, lovely!
After looking at these photos I believe you that you have early found the most relaxing place on earth.
Thanks Val! It’s on my list for 2015! I am currently in Portugal, Algarve, following your foot steps!
Me and jess loved it here !
Your images are definitely gorgeous!! I can see how it would be incredibly soothing enclosed by such views! It’s completely easy to understand how a position with such charming scenery and opinions is ideal for pleasure, lovely!
Wow, those views and the sunset skies, such an excellent place to just disappear and just be!
Oh, we’ve some similar spots on the Canary Islands. But the problem is we always seem to be working. We need to kick back and your recommendation would be a great place to start.
That looks seriously relaxing Val!
So, so beautiful. Thank you! And the last photo, of you — if you were any more relaxed you’d have been asleep. 😀
Oh sigh. This is so absolutely beautiful. I love the photos!
the ways you have shown to paradise are unbelievably fantastic! beautiful enough! LOves-Gabi 🙂 <3
I can see why this is a place where you can just be. Your pictures are gorgeous — and the monkeys are delightful.
Wow! The sunsets look absolutely spectacular. What a place to kick back and unwind!
Awesome tip. I spent a lot of time while in Thailand trying to track down the perfect island, and this seems like it! Just need to get back there now…
Yes, except this island is in Cambodia, not Thailand!
You had me sold on the whole relaxing thing until you got into the questionable hygiene, the lack of toilet paper and getting sick! 😛 I guess if you have to get food poisoning this is a nice place to curl up and recover. Come to think of it, one place I found particularly relaxing was the far end of the west side of Thailand’s Koh Chang where I had a beautiful view of the sunset from a bamboo and thatch deck and, behind me, a bathroom of typically dirty proportions. If I had had anything more than a beer from the kitchen I might have spent some time curled up too… Great pics, looks like you had the place all to yourself!
Yes, that part wasn’t so great. The food situation could definitely be improved!!
Those are some seriously gorgeous sunsets!
Yes, this was one of my top 3 favorite spots in Asia
Wwooowww !! Amazing photos !
This is Athina from Greece. We are visiting this Paradise/Island on 19th of February and we have already book the first night in Saracen Bay Resort.
You think that it will be easy to find accommodation for the next days or we should prebook? Not many options on line and Saracen bay resort is full.
Any tips or suggestions are welcome… 🙂
Thanks a lot
I would prebook if you can, but if not, you should be able to find it….sorry, but I was there during low season, so many of the other hotels were closed.
Heading there in three weeks, same resort! Did you see the plantkin at night? how was the snorkeling? You pictures make me soooo excited 🙂
I didn’t see plankton, but I also didn’t know to look for it there. The snorkeling isn’t great here, but the stay is amazing!
Plankton, dive sites and amazing coral reef snorkelling are easily accessible from M”Pai Bay fishing village in North of island. Several backpacker places recently opened #MPaiBay, you should make a trip to see some real tropical island culture
Koh Rong Samloem is paradise on earth, we spent a week there last month. And the best part was being cut off from the world, with no wifi or phone service. We can’t wait to go back 🙂
I thought that was the best part, too, a rarity in this world!
