San Miguel de Allende Restaurants: 7 Cheap Eats

    November 6, 2013 / 19 Comments

There are many wonderful San Miguel de Allende restaurants to choose from. Here are my recommendations for the cheap eats where the food is usually even better than what you will pay at some of the more expensive restaurants in town which cater to tourists. ¡Buen provecho! 1.  La Valentina Antojitos- This place is right off of the Jardin and is super cheap.  They have great posole, flautas and soups, usually between 35-60 pesos.  ($3-$5).  It’s one of my favorite places to eat when activities are going on in the Jardin, as you don’t have to walk very far to get something to eat.  I also love that I’m usually…

A Perfect Meal At La Teca

    January 21, 2013 / 1 Comment

Yes, I have had many blissful food moments in my life, but very few that have actually transformed me. Today, I met a woman, who I believe, was even more passionate about cooking than me (and that is hard to do!). To get there I had to take the first taxi that I’ve had to in Oaxaca because this restaurant was a little far from the main tourist area. I considered this a good sign already.  But, when I got there, I arrived to find a big black door and a closed garage door at the address. They didn’t appear to be open. However, my timing was perfect as a…

    Oaxaca Restaurants

    January 20, 2013 / No Comments

The food of Oaxaca is the best that I have eaten anywhere.  The moles which have simmered for hours bring the taste of spice and earth, a mouth-warming delight.  Soups look so simple, yet are amazingly complex.  Tamales and tortillas and guacamole, smokey mescal, oh and the cheese.  The freshest eggs I’ve ever had, chiles, and tomatoes and dark rich coffee. Here are my recommendations:   El Alquimista- This restaurant isn’t in Oaxaca City, but along the coast of Oaxaca State, and has some of the very best food that I ate in all of Oaxaca, so I wanted to include it here.  Plus, if you are going to the…
