Destinations That Feel Like Summer All Year Round

The UK has enjoyed (or endured, depending on your perspective) one of the hottest summers in living memory. But that summer is now finally waning, and giving way to a dank and drizzly autumn. Within a few short weeks, the clocks will be changing again, and, for many, this is a cause for some glumness.

But don’t despair. We’re fortunate enough to live in the age of modern air travel, which means that you’re never more than a few hours away from a sunny destination, even when the weather at home is frightful.

Let’s consider a few parts of the world that might appeal to sun-seekers at this time of year. Where are the best winter sun holidays to be found?

The Canary Islands

Many of the destinations we’ll mention here will benefit from an equatorial (or at least tropical) climate, which means that they’ll be reasonably sunny for much of the year. The Canary Islands lie just within the Tropic of Cancer, which means that they’re a great fit for those in search of warm temperatures.

All of the big tourist favourites are worth considering, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura. There’s plenty of natural variety to enjoy here, especially if you’re moving around the archipelago as your holiday progresses. At the same time, you’ll be able to avoid the crowds associated with the height of summer.

Dubai

In summer, Arabia tends to be uncomfortably hot, to the extent that many visitors spend much of their time seeking shelter within air-conditioned malls. Thus, places like Dubai are very appealing during autumn, spring, and winter. You’ll benefit from amazing features and facilities, including chances to head out into the desert in a jeep.

Mauritius

When it comes to island paradises, it’s very difficult to compete with Mauritius. Lying in the middle of the Indian Ocean, just off the west coast of Madagascar, this part of the world offers exactly the required climate, as well as a suitably laid-back culture. You might stroll around the villages and nature reserves, before heading out with some diving gear to explore the local coral reefs. There’s a great deal of biodiversity and natural wonder to uncover, and winter is a great time to do it.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali is warm and welcoming when Britain is cold and damp. You’ll just need to make sure that you’ve timed your trip to coincide with the dry season, which falls between May and September. You can still enjoy a great holiday during October, but any later than that and it’s probably worth reconsidering, unless you enjoy rain.

While you’re in the country, you might enjoy the legendary nightlife. At the same time, it’s worth making time for the local temples and rice terraces, as well as the coastal towns where you can enjoy all of the seaside experiences that make life on the island so richly appealing.
