Costa Rica Doesn’t Have Tacos And 5 Other Reasons I Decided Not To Move There

    November 8, 2016 / 3 Comments

“Maybe there´s no home, just road´s end.” ― Tony Cohan, On Mexican Time: A New Life In San Miguel When I was thinking of moving to Costa Rica, I got messages from a lot of you that you would be watching me, as you were also thinking of moving there. So, what happened? Why didn’t I move there? Well, it started out with the place I was volunteering not being what I had hoped it would be. It turned out that we would be staying in shared tents with cots that were a mile hike from the road on a slippery trail that crossed a stream in the jungle. A…

The San Jose Airbnb Haven You Will Want To Stay At In Costa Rica

    October 23, 2016 / No Comments

If you need a place to stay in San Jose, I highly recommend staying at Jerry’s City Oasis. This San Jose Airbnb is set in a 1948 Costa Rican home. The home is beautifully decorated and felt like a true haven in the busy city. What really makes this San Jose Airbnb stand out is the tranquil garden just perfect for sitting and relaxing in peace.   The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I’ve found on any of my travels, and I slept so good. The sheets and blankets on the bed were high quality, which was a nice touch that you usually don’t find at $30/night Airbnb’s. My room was…

How To Be Happier Than A Billionaire: An Interview With Nadine Hays Pisani

    September 8, 2014 / 4 Comments

“This monotony, this emptiness, will be your life forever if you don’t change it.” -Nadine Hays Pisani Nadine Hays Pisani’s book, Happier Than A Billionaire (and the sequel), are two of the books that convinced me to sell everything I own and to live the lifestyle that I enjoy today. I, too, felt the drain of the monotonous life I was living, and I knew there had to be a better way. I had just returned from Costa Rica when I read her book, Happier Than A Billionaire, and I couldn’t help but laugh. Nadine humorously captures the quirks of living in Costa Rica and will have you dreaming of going there…

The Osa Peninsula, Corcovado National Park

    January 19, 2013 / No Comments

The Osa Peninsula was one of the most astounding places that I’ve ever visited.  With its misty beaches, its abundant wildlife,  and remote location, I truly felt like I had come to the ends of the Earth. I stayed at the La Leona Ecolodge and being right on the beach, it was wonderful to hear the ocean waves every night. The rooms here are tent cabins.  They have enclosed tropical garden bathrooms.  It was lovely to shower beneath a palm tree.  There is no electricity in the rooms, nor internet connection which made it feel like a true escape. I highly recommend getting the meal package as the food at…

    Costa Rica

I loved the diversity of Costa Rica when I traveled there.  In just two weeks I got to have so many different kinds of experiences and see so many different types of things.  I  got to relax on a deserted beach that was on the edge of a rainforest.  Truly there was nothing like lying on the beach and having scarlet macaws fly over and monkeys playing in the trees behind me.  Hiking through the rainforest was breathtaking with its huge blue butterflies flying by, poison dart frogs, bats, anteaters, sloths, and the unusual coati, which was an animal I didn’t even know existed before my Costa Rican trip.  The…
