/ Oregon Waterfalls: Butte Creek Falls
If you’re looking for an easy hike to see some Oregon waterfalls, I highly recommend a stop at Butte Creek Falls. It’s just over an hour’s drive from Portland, near Scott Mills. And, this mile-long easy hike will let you view two beautifully stunning waterfalls.
The tranquil forest trail takes you to both Upper Butte Creek Falls and Butte Creek Falls. It’s often possible to walk behind Upper Butte Creek Falls which provides for a stunning view. Be careful of the slippery rocks, though.
This is a great hike for people with all skill levels of hiking, including kids. You will want to keep an eye on your kids on the bluff that overlooks Butte Creek Falls. There is a steep drop off with no guard rails. You can also take dogs on this hike, but you must keep them on a leash.
The upper falls are quite magical to behold, and are 78 feet tall. There is a trail from here that you can take to reach the base of the falls, but I thought it looked a bit too dangerous to try.
If you are visiting in the summer, the pool below Upper Butte Creek Falls is a fun swimming hole. Spring is a great time for the flowering trees, and Autumn is great to go and see the changing leaves.
Note that there is now a gate blocking the main access road, so there is now an alternate road that can be found here. Butte Creek Falls was one of the prettiest of the Oregon waterfalls, so I highly recommend going off the beaten path to get here. There are no fees or permits required to hike here. There are also restrooms at the trailhead.
