Gili Trawangan is now very different than when I first visited her stunning glory seven years ago. Seven years ago, she was a sleepy glorious island with open air tiki bars set up with couches under the stars and Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix playing in the background. Now her nightlife is very loud and bordering on the obnoxious with Top 40 and Reggae filling the streets. During the day,though, her colors still astound, her coral still washes up on her shores, and her sunsets will still touch your heart. Ubud, Bali is the place that stirs my soul and touches my heart in a way that no other place on Earth does. And it doesn’t even have a beach. Is it the gracious and smiling people? The beautiful rice fields with their colors of electric green, dancing fireflies, butterflies, and chirping crickets? Is it the spiritual energy in the air where everyone seems to know their place in the world?
