What The Animals in Yala Park, Sri Lanka Taught Me
Sometimes I think that there are no better teachers in life than animals. If we spend the time to really watch them, we can learn so much. I had the opportunity to do just that in Yala Park in Sri Lanka, and this is what I learned. 1. Determination I watched an elephant struggle with a tree branch for 15 minutes just to get to the leaves on the top of a tree. There were plenty of other trees around with leaves that would have been easier to reach, but the elephant refused to move on until it had gotten all the leaves off of this one. It made me…

Pictures From Ella, Sri Lanka To Nuwara Eliya
Ella, Sri Lanka was one of those places that you see a beautiful picture of, and so you decide to go. The problem is once you get there and you’ve seen the one waterfall where the beautiful pictures were taken, that’s it, and you wonder why you came so far to see so little. But what made it all worth it was the glorious train ride through the tea plantations to Nuwara Eliya. The scenery was stunning. I made friends with a local family who even offered to share their lunch with me. It was here I really started to feel the hospitality of the Sri Lankan people and also…

Pictures From Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka
Udawalawe National Park was amazing because of the number of elephants that I saw. I got to see many elephant families which had me totally enraptured. There were also a lot of water buffalo, crocodiles, and eagles. I liked Udawalawe National Park because it was a lot less touristy than Yala National Park. If you want to mainly see elephants, then Udawalawe is the one to visit. If it’s a larger variety of animals that you are hoping to see, then Yala National Park is the one for you. Pictures of Yala National Park
Yala National Park was my favorite part of Sri Lanka. Getting to see leopards, elephants, water buffalo, monkeys, and peacocks all in the same day in their natural habitat was incredible. My favorite part was seeing the elephants. I could have watched them all day. It’s easy to forget what majestic beings we are sharing the earth with, and a visit here will remind you of why we need to all do our part to protect it. I feel a lot of gratitude for the chance to have seen these animals and to have had the opportunity to be so close to them. I hope these pictures of Yala Park will…

Pictures of Mirissa Beach, Sri Lanka
While I didn’t find Mirissa Beach to be the most beautiful beach I’ve ever visited, I did enjoy seeing the blue whales there. The early morning light made the other boats in the harbor look like paintings. Mirissa Beach is on the southern part of Sri Lanka, and I also enjoyed taking the train from Colombo to arrive there. At night, the restaurants grilled fresh fish right on the beach, and it made for a perfect setting to unwind and relax. One day, while walking to the beach, I almost tripped over a monitor lizard, and ,well, let’s just say it cured my fear of spiders and other bugs. Nothing…
